Posting some parts here! These still needed to be proofread and edited, but I figured posting it here would be more convenient for owners who want to get commissions of their Aracalies.

This should be a common courtesy but just in case:
-Aracalies is a closed species. Please do not create your own.
-Please refrain from copying, heavily referencing, or tracing, my designs, species, or art, thank you.

"For every lie you told, you caught yourself deeper into the arachnid's web"

Arac from "Arachne", the word spider in Greek. Cal from "Calumina", meaning lies in latin. And of course, lies!

BASIC

Aracalies are inter-dimensional beings capable of traveling between mortal planes in search of deception and lies. They possess no corporeal form within these dimensions, existing merely as an energy field, sometimes detectable at certain wavelengths. On the rare occasions Aracalies are visible to certain individuals, they are often mistaken for benign ghostly spirits, due to their inability to interact with their physical surroundings. However, those who become entangled in an Aracalie’s web through their threads of lies and deceit fall prey to their true predatory nature, and their bodies and souls consumed by these creatures.

ANATOMY

An Aracalie is able to take on a multiple appearances depending on the dimension they are situated in, though most common are its arachnid and humanoid forms.

Mask

An Aracalie’s true form is arachnid in appearance, with eight eyes arranged in pairs vertically down the midline of its oval body, which tapers to three points at one end in the likeness of a mask. In their human form, this ‘mask’ is visible as a marking located on the upper back.

Aracalies' Back, the Catcher and the legs

Catcher and Spinner

The most noticeable Aracalian trait is perhaps the Catcher, which serves as a loom upon which a web of lies may be woven, as well as its use as an interdimensional gate for travelling and capturing prey. Similar to the fingerprint of a human, the web pattern of an Aracalie is unique, and varies between individuals. It exists as circle of vertebral bone arising out of the eye sockets of the mask between the scapulae in their humanoid form, and as a hoop around the body in their arachnid form.

Attached to the catcher is the feather-shaped Spinner, employed by the Aracalie while travelling to accelerate the opening of the dimensional gate. When not in use, the Spinner eye is closed.

Legs

Aracalies possess eight articulated limbs, each composed of 3 segments, which arise from the dorsal and ventral sides of the arachnid body, ending in sharpened hooks at the furthest segment. As humanoids, these limbs are retained, protruding in four pairs from the thoracic region down to the lumbar region of the vertebral column. They serve a variety of purposes, but are most commonly used for holding down prey, tearing flesh, and defending from attackers.

Principal eyes

The principal eyes are main pair of used for sight. The sclera is black in the Aracalies’ true form, although this pigmentation can be hidden while in the guise of a human to make them appear white. Unlike round humanoid pupils, Aracalian pupils are marquise-shaped, and are edged with minute spikes. In a normal state, the pupils form contracted slits, but can widen to form spiked hoops when excited.

Abdominal eyes

In addition to the principal eyes, Aracalies possess six other eyes, which are found on either sides of the abdomen lateral to the ribcage as humanoids. Each eye is capable of moving independently.

*Abdominal eyes can be interpreted as markings or actual eyes depending on personal preference.

Markings

Their necks are covered with markings.

HUNTING

Aracalies have numerous predacious methods of amassing food sources, which can be executed alone, or in collaboration with a host, depending on personal preference. However, one decree rings hard and fast irrespective of technique; only an individual who has told a sufficient number of untruths may be devoured. Aracalies guilty of violating this decree are duly punished by ‘The Rule’.

    Web of Lies

Aracalies hunt by collecting the lies told by their prey, with each untruth spoken allowing another thread to be woven into the Catcher. Upon completion of this so-called ‘web of lies’ a link between the Aracalian and target dimensions is formed, allowing the capture of their prey. Once fallen into the web, the body and soul of the imprisoned individual is devoured by the Aracalie.

    Thread of Distrust

To supplement their main food source, an Aracalie may collaborate with a ‘host’, an individual who harbours a strong grudge towards a lying individual. An agreement is made between the two, whereupon a smaller empty web, derived from the main Aracalian Catcher, is presented to the host, who is led to believe that this web is to be spun with untruths from the begrudged. In truth, the threads spun into this web are made from the distrust of the host towards the liar, though the pattern formed is identical to that of the main Catcher. Once the ‘web of distrust’ is fully woven, the liar is pulled through it into the Aracalian dimension, and is consumed. In exchange for this service, the host commits their soul to the Aracalie after their death.

Although this method of hunting is advantageous in providing additional nourishment, it also carries high risks; the extra web is formed at the expense of an Aracalie’s strength. Thus, if the host fails to complete it, for example due to reconciliation with the begrudged, the Aracalie has wasted their power in its creation.

Through the Catcher

INTERDIMENSIONAL LEAPING

With each individual consumed, Aracalies becomes increasingly strong; when enough power is imbued, they are able to transcend their intangible form by breaking through the dimensional gate in their Catchers. In doing so, they are enveloped by the thread of lies, forming an external shell which provides them with a physical guise within that mortal plane.

Only those powerful enough to pass through the barrier may achieve a physical form, and it may take an Aracalie hundreds of years to accumulate enough energy to undergo this process. Although the consumption of bodies and souls is no longer necessary at this point, it is paramount for the Aracalie to seek out deception in order to maintain their physical bodies. Failure to do force them back through their Catcher, whereupon they lose their shell, and are forced to repeat the process of energy accumulation to enter the physical plane once more.

In the guise of human beings, Aracalies are unable to employ their usual otherworldly abilities, although their bodies are resistant to the physical damage ordinary humans would not normally be able to withstand. As long as deception and lies are present, Aracalies are able to persist within that world. It is thought that the only way to rid a vicinity of an Aracalian presence is to employ the authority of a greater supernatural force, for example an exorcism.

SOCIAL CULTURE

Aracalies can manifest in any given dimension, but originate within their own realm, where they inhabit a physical form, and exist as the dominant race amongst other creatures. Aracalian society is based on the survival of the fittest, with the weak becoming prey to those more powerful. Thus, in order to exist successfully, it is the ultimate goal of every Aracalies to become stronger. Despite this ruthless hierarchy, Aracalies are not always malignant in nature. Aracalian personality and behaviour varies between individuals, particularly with regards to humankind; while some view them as little more than livestock, others may hold them in higher regard. Similarly, the dishonesty exhibited by humans are considered as light entertainment by some Aracalies, while others see themselves as executors of justice through the punishment those who lie and deceive.
